What is FIRST®?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a worldwide organization consisting of four levels:
- FIRST® Lego League Jr. (FLL Jr., grades 1-3)
- FIRST® Lego League (FLL, grades 4-8)
- FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC, grades 7-12)
- FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC, grades 9-12)
When you participate in FIRST®, a world of opportunities opens. There are endless possibilities to learn and grow your STEM, business, and technical knowledge. There will be successes and failures as you work with a team to create robots that can lift, climb, throw, and carry, as well as create a business plan, and work within the local, national, and even international community to increase the awareness of STEM careers.
FIRST®’s Mission
The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
